## From 1 October 2026, renting a boat without a licence ends

Until now you could rent a motorboat of up to 5 metres and 15 hp with no qualification at all. That exemption is being removed. Royal Decree 1188/2025 repeals it, and from 1 October 2026 anyone renting will need the corresponding licence.

If your plan for next summer was to rent a small boat and go, you now need at least the Basic Boat Licence. Six hours, no exam.

## Desde el 1 de octubre de 2026 cambian las reglas del alquiler sin título

Hasta ahora se podía alquilar una embarcación a motor de hasta 5 metros y 15 CV sin ninguna titulación. Eso se acaba. El Real Decreto 1188/2025 suprime esa excepción, y desde el 1 de octubre de 2026 quien alquila tiene que tener el título correspondiente.

Si tu plan para el verano que viene era alquilar una lancha pequeña sin más, ahora necesitas al menos la Licencia de Navegación. Son seis horas y no hay examen.
